Mr. William N. Buxton, IAAI-CFI
President
As a founder and President of Pyr-Tech, Inc., Bill
Buxton has over forty years of
fire related experience and has examined more than 4,000 fires. He was born in 1936 and raised in Southern Illinois.
Buxton joined the United States Army after attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He served in the 8th Army United Nations Command Honor Guard in Seoul, Korea.
Buxton joined the Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department in 1966 and would continue to serve the community until his retirement from the fire department in 1991.Throughout his time at the fire department, he served as a Treasurer, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief for three years, and Fire Chief for four years.In 1989, Buxton was honored as the Cahokia Fire Fighter of the Year.
In 1972, Buxton graduated the Illinois State Police Academy. From 1973 to 1983, he was a Fire and Arson Investigator for the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM).In 1973, he joined the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and founded the Southern Illinois Arson Investigators Association.Buxton became a Member of the Board of Directors of the IAAI in 1975, Vice President in 1984, and served as President from 1985 through 1986.

Throughout his career, he has been and is a member of various organizations, including the Illinois Advisory Committee of Arson Prevention, the National Fire Protection Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators, along with several other organizations.
Buxton has been a principal force in fire science education. He served
as a member of the Committee of the U.S. Fire Administration to develop an 80-hour
Fire and Arson Investigation Course for the Federal Government.The course that was developed was
implemented throughout the United States in 1979.Since 1974, Buxton has instructed and spoken at over 50 fire science classes and seminars across the United States.He also was Chairman of the IAAI
Training and Education Committee from 1991 to 2001.

In 1976, Buxton and a colleague founded Pyr-Tech.In 1978, the company became incorporated in Missouri and in Illinois in 1979.Buxton was a Senior Consultant from
1978 to 1983 and Director of Operations from 1983 to 1994.He became President in 1994 and
currently holds that position.
Buxton has received various honors and awards over the years, including
Honorary Life Memberships at the Illinois and Missouri IAAI Chapters, the
Southern Illinois Arson Investigators, two President Awards from the IAAI, a
Commissioned Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and numerous
others.
Over the years, Buxton has taken his knowledge of fire science, arson
and fraud investigations and developed a successful business that continues to
flourish.His dedication to
furthering fire science related education continues at in-house Pyr-Tech
Training Courses and seminars throughout the United States.
